Helping teachers
in publication classrooms is a goal of the Journalism Education Association,
an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English. JEA's California
affiliates Southern California JEA and JEA of Northern California encourage
excellence in scholastic journalism by sponsoring state conventions, adviserfest
and problem-solving workshops as well as presenting awards and scholarships.

2009 State Write-Offs
High schools from Santa Barbara to San Diego
are invited to send their best journalists to the
2009 SCJEA State Write-off Competition on May 16 at
Fullerton College

SCJEA also awards $2000 in four
scholarships to graduating seniors.
Scholarship deadline is May 9.
The postmark DEADLINE for registration
and payment of fees is May 9.
